It was a dark and
stormy night. The wind was howling and so was I. After several
days of mainlining Pitocin, I was finally in labor. My little
Conehead was about to face the real world.
Flash forward 9
years. |
|
I'm a writer. I'm
toiling over a plotless (though witty) computer book on how to
use Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 (let me know if you want info
about it). The phone rings. I answer. It is
a publisher of sweetly sentimental books asking if I'd be
interested in writing one about mothers for her company.
Shifting from
PowerPoint to motherly musings would be no small task. I ask for
24 hours to think about it. She agrees and promises to email me
more information and samples and submission requirements and so
on.
I quit PowerPoint
around 11 PM and by 2 AM have what I think is a pretty good
collection of pithy little sayings.
I never hear from
the publisher again.
I show the
sayings to my friends. Some smile. Some laugh. Some actually
weep over the sentimentality.
Thus was born MOM
THOUGHTS.
Remember that
dark and stormy night? My son is now 17. That makes one of my
"thoughts" especially poignant for me: When you're a Mother, you can't afford to close your eyes
-- if you do, your children grow up before you can open them
again. I wrote that when he was 9. It seems like yesterday.
Warning: For those of you with younger kids -- just wait till
it's time to teach them to drive! AAAARGH!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy
the Mom Thoughts site and, of course, I hope you enjoy the
"thoughts." I welcome feedback. I crave feedback. I live for
feedback. Sales are nice, too. And if you don't want to buy
anything, that's fine, but I'd REALLY appreciate it if you'd
tell me why. You absolutely positively cannot hurt my feelings!
My son will be heading off to college TOO DARN SOON so I need to
you start buying stuff. If you are not buying stuff, i need you
to tell me why not so I can fix that! College is not cheap. |
