Three years ago
Jane Doe was set to marry Nosmo King, the one true love of her
life and a fellow PI. First, though, she had to go to Seattle to
see her brother, John, get married. In a gesture of affection
and to help her get to the airport on time, Nosmo goes out to
start her car -- and gets blown to smithereens.
After a
considerable amount of "time off," Jane gets back into the swing
of things. As the novel opens, she is on her way to a session
with her shrink (she gets panic attacks while driving LA's
freeways). Because police cars are everywhere, she has to park a
ways away and as she nears the building, is stopped by an
officer. Her shrink, it seems, has been murdered. What's more,
at approximately the same time, Quentin Questfore was also
murdered -- the very man Jane is certain was responsible for
Nosmo's untimely demise. Torn between grief (over the loss of
her shrink) and euphoria (at the loss of her nemesis), she is
further shocked to learn that she is the prime suspect.
Before she can
clear her name, she must solve the 3-year-old murder case that
was the motivation for the car bombing. Along the way, she meets
Bruno. Probably a professional hit man, he befriends her and
terrifies her. She also meets a wacky family of physicians (or
are they?), including one hunk she falls for.
Here's what one
professional book critic had to say about THE QUESTFORE CAPER:
Marilyn Kyd has a well-written, witty,
and exhilarating accomplishment in THE QUESTFORE CAPER: A JANE
DOE MYSTERY. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Jane Doe was a
humorous, believable character confronted by a streak of bad
luck, which she dealt with famously. The novel is clearly meant
for entertainment, and in the mystery/fiction genre it should stand
tall and well. The light sarcasm and action-packed adventures of
Jane Doe provide a wonderful mode of release for an audience
that would rather laugh than cry at the horrors of our society. |
